SEARCH was founded in 1989 as a faith-based nonprofit
organization by the Council of Congregations -
an ecumenical collaborative who believed that
homeless individuals and families need more than
a meal and a place to sleep. They need a future.
Today, the Council of Congregations has grown to
include 36 congregations across Houston and Harris
County – all of which have signed a covenant to
support SEARCH and its mission to change lives and
end homelessness. These and other congregations provide critical sources of support to meet the needs of the poor. Congregations provide spiritual guidance, volunteers, in-kind resources, and opportunities for individuals and families to transform their lives.
