How does SEARCH get funded?
SEARCH uses outside contributions to provide services to our clients. Sources of support include government grants and donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and congregations. SEARCH also relies on in-kind donations from corporations and individuals to provide goods, such as toothbrushes and soap, for our clients.
What’s the difference between SEARCH and the Coalition for the Homeless?
The Coalition for the Homeless does not provide direct services to the homeless. The Coalition promotes awareness among service organizations about services offered by other service organizations.
How is SEARCH different from other homeless service organizations?
SEARCH complements and partners with shelters and other agencies to fill in the gaps for individuals struggling to change their lives. While feeding programs and shelters meet immediate survival needs, SEARCH services focus on long-term results. We provide people with education, job skills, and access to resources to help them stabilize and build a productive life.
Is SEARCH funded by the City of Houston and the United Way?
While SEARCH does receive some funding from the City of Houston, the grants given to us by the city constitute only a small portion, a total of 6 percent, of our operating budget.
