New twist to our fun and fabulous annual gala!

In light of challenges to our economy, SEARCH is replacing its annual gala with a more affordable, yet still fun and meaningful event.  We are gathering friends and resources to support our community’s growing number of people experiencing homelessness.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2009 SEARCH Homeless Services will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a “Picnic and Party….on the Green”.  Join us as we dance under the stars at Discovery Green and commemorate 20 years of providing hope, creating opportunity, and transforming lives of thousands of Houston’s homeless men, women and children.

  • 1,000 "movers and shakers" are expected to crowd the hill overlooking the skyline of Houston
  • Entertainment by the nationally known band, Rotel and the Hot Tomatoes.
  • Honoring Mayor Bill White
  • Food and drinks will be provided at multiple stations by various restaurants
  • "The Lounge", a prominent, comfortably furnished area will be designated for VIPs and other guests who want to contribute a little extra to put their feet up and be served special vodka drinks
  • As always, short on program, long on fun!

Over 600 Houstonians came out on May 9th to support SEARCH and its House of Tiny Treasures at the 11th Annual Celebrate the Children Gala. This year's theme-Bikers and Babes-proved to be a hit as men and women danced the night away in their best leather and denim. Through the generosity of corporate sponsors, major donors, in-kind donations to our silent auctions and many more, we were able to raise over $400,000 to help meet the needs of the families we serve.

Keynote Speakers: Authors Ron Hall and Denver Moore

Same Kind of Different as Me, is a phenomenal book that tells the unlikely true story of Ron Hall and Denver Moore. Ron is a wealthy international art dealer who travels the world buying and selling rare and expensive art. When Ron reluctantly volunteers at a homeless shelter, at the insistence of his wife, he soon comes into contact with Denver, a homeless man who grew up as a sharecropper in Louisiana. It was here that the two men met. The story of their relationship is fascinating and inspiring, offering a glimpse of what happens when these two worlds come into contact with each other.
