SEARCH thanks and appreciates our volunteers. We know that without the support of volunteers we would not have been able to serve more than 10,000 people last year! We are always looking for committed, dedicated volunteers to assist staff in helping make a positive difference in the lives of homeless men, women and children of Houston. Our Volunteer opportunities range from preparing lunch to tutoring adults in our Adult Literacy lab, from working with children at the House of Tiny Treasures to playing bingo with our On-Site Housing residents. The couple of hours you commit each month to SEARCH can make a big difference in the life of a homeless individual!
The Resource Center Kitchen
Kitchen Assistant
Assist SEARCH kitchen staff and other volunteers in preparing lunch and snacks. This may include serving lunch, slicing / peeling vegetables, filling cups with ice, etc.Resource Center
Clothing Room Assistant
Organize clothing room by categorizing men, women and children’s clothingMailroom Organizer
Collect all mail received for Resource Center clients and organize neatly for clients to receive mail. Also may be asked to distribute mail to clients.
Sandwich Making
Sandwiches are distributed through our Mobile Outreach Program to individuals who live on the streets Monday – Friday afternoons and on Wednesday and Thursday evenings. SEARCH is always in need of at least 75 – 100 sandwich sacks each day. Please put the sandwiches in a small zip lock bag and include two (2) sandwiches in a brown paper sack. Sandwiches should be dry/no condiments, just the bread and meat, turkey or ham or peanut butter & jelly, and may be delivered to SEARCH Monday – Thursday by 12 p.m. If you would like to make a complete sack lunch, include chips, a piece of fruit, a granola bar and water or juice box.
