SEARCH is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless men, women and children get off the streets and into jobs and affordable housing. SEARCH serves more than 10,000 homeless people annually, providing them with the tools to work and achieve self sufficiency.
SEARCH’s supporting services include a full-scale medical clinic, on-site and community-based housing, case management, mental health counseling, mobile outreach, a day shelter with showers, meals, laundry facilities, mail and telephone services and the House of Tiny Treasures, Houston’s first accredited child care center exclusively serving homeless children.
SEARCH was founded in 1989 by the Council of Congregations, an ecumenical group that believe homeless people need more than a bed and a meal; they need a future.

A Message from SEARCH President and CEO
Dear SEARCH Supporters,
It’s been one year since we took on the challenge of determining SEARCH’s new direction, getting the organization on a path of financial stability, and continuing to improve our program effectiveness and impact for the community we serve.
Thanks to our supporters, we’ve made significant improvements at SEARCH. First we’ve redefined SEARCH’s mission and values. We are also on a strategic path to being the leading provider of services that help homeless men, women, and children get off the streets and into jobs, and safe, stable housing. Equally important, our financial situation has improved since last year when we made difficult decisions to eliminate some of our programs in order to build a stronger future. On June 30th, we ended another fiscal year and are pleased to report an operating surplus.
While providing housing is critical, there is an equally important need for appropriate supportive services to keep people from becoming homeless again. The complex problems that cause people to become homeless require SEARCH’s client-centered services, which place high personal regard for each individual and give them choices about how they can transform their lives. SEARCH provides the individual support, education, skills training, and access to many other critical resources that make it possible to exit homelessness.
To reflect the true nature of our work, we’ve determined that our name and tagline should describe who we serve and our key focus and strength.
Thank you again for your support and being part of our very important work.
Thao Costis
