Community-Based, Scattered Site Housing The Scattered-Site Housing Program provides housing assistance and case management to disabled, homeless individuals and families. Participants choose affordable apartments throughout Houston and Harris County. The goal of this program is to free people from the immediate burdens of homelessness so that they will have the opportunity to become independent.
SEARCH subsidizes 56 units of housing for disabled families and individuals. SEARCH provides furnishings, rent, utilities, and the security deposits to enable the clients to rebuild a home. Forty of the units are for individuals and families who can become financially independent within two years, often with the help of the Employment Education Center.
Case managers work with the individuals and families to ensure success during and after program completion.
On-Site HousingThe On-Site Housing Program, run by AIDS Foundation Houston (AFH), provides housing, support, and case management to physically and/or mentally disabled homeless individuals. Forty-two single room occupancy apartments located in SEARCH’s building offer a communal living environment for single men and women struggling with their disabilities. Clients share common living, kitchen and dining areas. Each apartment is fully furnished and has a full-size bathroom.
During their stay, clients work on becoming more self-sufficient, such as attending GED training, obtaining entitlement assistance, substance abuse counseling, adult daily living skills and job training if their health allows.
