Putting people back to work is a signature goal for SEARCH in helping homeless individuals become independent. SEARCH offers adult basic education and GED services.
The majority of individuals applying for job training test low in math, reading, or language arts skills. These participants are assigned to the Computer Learning Lab to bring their scores up to 6th grade levels in those areas. Students work in the lab is a self-paced program utilizing remedial education software. A lab instructor assists them with their learning goals, instructional materials, and individual, one-on-one instruction, which may include outside assignments. Volunteer tutors are also available to work with those individuals desiring more intensive one-on-one instruction.
GEDApproximately 10% of students applying for employment services are in need of a GED. These students attend class from 9:00am to 3:00pm Monday - Friday with a certified teacher. Students reinforce skills with the GED software programs in much the same way as those needing remedial education. The same instructional support is available to GED students.

Job Readiness InstructionTo prepare clients for the workforce in today's economy, courses instruct participants on how to conduct a job search, develop a resume, enhance interview skills, and increase awareness of real-life employment issues.
In addition to educational programs, clients work closely with a case manager, job developer, and job readiness instructor to make their job search and employment successful. They also receive the supplemental resources necessary to obtain employment including work clothes, basic tools, bus tokens, meals, access to computers, telephones, voicemail, and more.
