For the approximately 14,000 homeless persons in the Houston/Harris County area, poor health and lack of affordable health care are among the top risk factors related to homelessness. Major barriers to care include lack of insurance or a Harris County Hospital District Gold Card, cost of care, lack of transportation, long waits for care or appointments and "red tape".
SEARCH provides medical and dental care on-site in clinics operated by our partner Healthcare for the Homeless - Houston. HHH originated from a partnership between Baylor College of Medicine and SEARCH, and currently provides SEARCH clients with medical care, psychiatry, mental health counseling, dentistry, TB testing, vision assistance, podiatry, health education and information, referral, and medical outreach.
